Use something soft such as a tapestry. Maybe the scene could be romantic with columns. Use a
soft neutral color. Also, place your pictures closer together over the bed. They are too far apart.

Scribble on the walls, both behind the bed and extending to the blank wall. Poetry would be lovely. Or do a willow tree similar to the wallpaper, but the leaves turn into words and go flying across the blank wall. Use soft colors, not black.

So good to know that door is to an attic because you have all sorts of possibilities as others have mentioned. For a moment I thought it was a circuit-breaker box like a master bedroom in the house where I used to live--had to sleep at night with the thing humming over my head.

I would add a large piece of art to really pop out the room. Its a great place to place something like that. Your bed is gorgeous and it looks like the room is going to be great! There were alot of comments that I scrolled past, so I hope I'm not repeating something that someone may have already commented on, but honestly, my first insctint was to suggest floor to ceiling fabric (softly gathered) on that wall, behind headboard and on the window wall. Either in a very suble print or solid. I just love the coziness of fabric in a bedroom

This looks like a king size bed , That's almost a perfect square , so it seems to me that you have room to put it against that long wall, facing the window, I would do that , add regular size night table on each side , ,That TV is way too big for the bedroom, if you must have one get a smaller one, place the dresser next to the window (with TV on it facing the bed)). Put drapes on each side of the window, the idea of wallpaper on that large wall is great, If that small window is fake, take it out and drywall over the hole. Put a large standing mirror there instead, or even your 3 pictures grouped lower and closer together. place the bed nearer the door and put the chair and one of the mirrored tables beside it with a smaller lamp. Do an arrangement of small ornate mirrors, or empty sculptural romantic frames painted white. on that wall.Good luck

Consider putting the television in a TV lift cabinet. The television will disappear when you're not watching it. Then you can have some fun with that faux window by making it look like art. I'd get three larger pictures for over the bed. That wall isn't really that large. I'd leave it untouched. Not every wall needs something on it. Frame the windows with ceiling to floor height faux silk solid panels in a color to complement the bedding. Finish the room with gorgeous layered bedding and it's done.

I would add a couple of short to medium-sized shelves (such as from Ballard designs), and put whatever you like on them. someone else suggested shelves with framed photos; I would also add something that hangs down, to soften the line, perhaps a plant such as ivy (real or artificial).

Just did this and it's gorgeous and sophisticated. And inexpensive. We did birch but I've seen plywood look gorgeous. Btw, it's simple.

You desire a romantic retreat and that is what you should have. My advice would be a few different design points.

I would add a little punch by adding a deeper wall color. The one I choose for you is Benjamin Moore Summer's Day. It really sets off your bed and linens.

I think it would be a huge accent if you found some old moldings that would add some vertical structure and accent to your bed wall.

The other white wall needs a romantic wall art picture, I found a great Paris art piece from
Z-Galleries.

The window coverings should be soft and romantic but not get in your wall so that someone gets tangled up in them. A great choice would be soft roman shades.

If you need that ceiling fan than keep it but if not then change it out for A drum shade this one is a muted color similar to your bedding and has bold leaves, very romantic.

Make your room special, it yours you have to be in your home everyday...

You already have so many great ideas! I would move your current pictures above the bed to the blank wall and add some shelve too if you want. Put in two wall mounted floating night stands would make the space on both sides of the bed bigger and add wall mounted lamps. I love your head board but the ceiling fan does not make it glamorous/romantic.

I would place one large scaled picture over the head of the bed and maybe something mirrored on the wall opposite the windows would make the room look bigger and give more natural light.

You may want to put in a custom floor to ceiling built in and use the whole wall for your built-in for the TV and will which would hide all of the cable wires.

You could add more lighting in the built in. Make the lighting for the built in and the celing fan/light on a remote as well.

You can see the nightstand and wall mounted lamps below. I would paint the wall behind the head board a different color which would make it stand out. Below is a roller brush wall stencil, you could use something like this to paint the wall giving it a two toned look behind the head board. Either paint the wall a flat color, and make the stencil the same color only shiny paint, or wall different color from stencil.

i loved a lot of ides. We have Florida home and wall paper is not good idea (peels off concrete walls due to humidity), But the roller w/ design on paint is excellent idea.

What's the view like out your window?? If it's pretty, then I would "double" it, by putting a glamorous mirror on the the opposite wall to widen the feel of the room. I also loved the idea of fabric draped softly along that wall. Very cozy. Maybe a soft linen?

This is a perfect example of where wallpaper should be placed. Color and pattern should light in color and too busy in order to keep the room looking to small.

Paint the frames of the 3 pics a silver metallic--lower them so that they are nearer the bed than the ceiling. Also, someone else said to try the bed on the large blank wall. Get a cheap round table at least 36" diameter and cover with complimentary fabric to the floor--very romantic and soft. Your bedside tables are too small but one of them might look more to scale next to your chair.

I'm not sure about the chair in that bedroom...it's a bit cramped. Depending on how you build your TV console you could move it over to that same wall next to the door. A darker color on the back wall would make that fabulous (envy envy) bed pop. Some drapes on either side of the window (something soft and light) would be great. It would soften the room. You don't ever have to close them...just hang them there. Perhaps a fourth picture ( if you can find another frame like that) and lower, as others have suggested. A painted pattern or wallpaper on the far wall (something with some silver shimmer) would be nice. You can do this with a template and some tinted high gloss paint or glaze over low gloss paint too...that way you can match the darker wall paint easily. But for such a small wall you can splurge on some great wallpaper. I'm not sure about that carpet color...it looks brown in the pic but that might just be the lighting. I'd prefer it lighter myself. Also, the bed doesn't look quite centered. You might have done that on purpose but it makes that far bedside table seem a bit cramped. I like the tables although they do seem a bit too delicate next to the upholstered bed. (and there is NOT enough bedside surface for me...books, water, etc etc.) Small mirrored dressers might be more practical for storing stuff. Bigger bedside tables would also allow for bigger lamps which would dwarf those current tables. But I DO like the tables. The mirror in them makes the room more glam.

Definitely lower pics and bring closer to start. Otherwise you have great suggestions and good options. I have nothing to offer.

TV in the bedroom makes for restless sleep - whether on or off (emits some type of electro-current when off aka bad carma). Love the idea of wall paper behind headboard, and taller lamps, will improve the looks of your small nightstands. Is that a window behind the TV - to the outside? Need a longer, fabric covered seat at the end of your bed - stay about 7" inside from each end (great place to put bedspread at night as well). Don't put anything else on those nightstands and they won't look as small. Can place item on bottom shelf (not a grouping and nothing small), but must be big enough to balance the lamps above.

Access to the attic can be hidden by removing the knob and putting a finger size hole in door to open, and hang a picture over it. If you don't need both night stands, remove the one close to the attic opening, and move the bed slightly closer to that wall, leaving more room on the side with the window for your window treatments. My eye was drawn immediately to that 'opening' and suggest it be hidden.

I had another thought, after reading some other posters, so I amended the photo to illustrate. Another option is to go with a patterned wallpaper (something subtle but interesting) behind the bed and then put a great piece of art on the big wall...something large enough to cover the doorknob of the attic access - making it less obvious. The painting isn't the right one..but you get the idea.

Imac, I loved your pics above the bed, but as someone else said, just a bit lower. Helena Poll, I LOVE the first idea with the wall paper on the side wall. It looks so peaceful. I second hanging the tv up with a holder and freeing up the floor space for a long dresser under the faux window.

El Dorado has a stone veneer wall that is smooth and a light beige color called pearl that looks great when creating lighted niches, an antiqued mirror niche, etc. It will protrude about 3" into the room, but you can cut into the sheetrock to get deeper niches if you want. I wouldn't keep the matching bedside tables and small lights with such a large bed - place a vertical bedside chest (perhaps painted black or red lacquer) on the window side and do an asymmetrical look. Lighting can be done with sconces on the wall over the bed that are a nice size, perhaps with elongated tails in black wrought iron. You can add black framed photos collection over the bed similar to what you have. I would also add a burst of color with a long neckroll pillow. Your room is very small, so going for a romantic, cozy "cave" effect could work.

A company called Architexture makes some interesting appliques that would work well. Frise Art Deco and Vaques are two options that would work well.I have also seen some painting of for instance a tree with branches bending sideways towards the headboard which would compliment the assymetrical balance of the room nicely. Horizontal stripes about 12" wide sweeping the side wall and around the corner to the headboard wall would also be great. A large scale rectangular mirror with a wide frame-6" or wider could then be placed above the headboard. I will include pictures of the horizontal stripe idea that I reccommended on an entry wall and also some of the Architexture patterns that would work well. Yes the pictures are too small. Scale is the hardest element to get right.

No Imac_1, the only way you can get it for a reasonable price is to either be in a jr. college or know someone who is a student. They give great discounts to students for these types of programs.

I just had an idea for a frame over the bed area. If you have someone take at least four 5" x 7" black and white photos of you and/or spouse and have it frame together similar to the photo below. I found these cards and wanted to frame them as art work but only wanted them in one frame.

Go with larger sized prints over the bed or more smaller prints arranged square or not lined up. A large print on the wall next to the bed will work as well.

The room looks very small. Assuming you can't arrange the bed on any other wall. If that's the case, I would paint the wall behind the bed in a dark color of your choice that coordinates with the main wall color. Example :chocolate brown accent wall with light latte walls on the others. Or charcoal gray w/ dove gray, etc. I'd get the bedding I like first and then pick the color palette....that's just me as I think one needs to make a total plan, colorwise. Also, even tho they're pretty, the end tables and lamps don't work well with your bed. If the bed is to stay, I'd choose more rectangular night tables. Also other have commented on the lamp size.....they are correct, your lamps are to small (short). One more thing, the round stool at the end of the bed should also be rectangular, or two smaller square ones pushed together. As for the wall over the bed. Don't do a mirror, since it seems your TV has to be on the wall it's on. You'll just get a reflection of that. Also, I'm from earthquake country, so I'd never recommend a mirror over a bed. A large rectangular piece of art (or 2 square ones/side by side) would be the best. Be bold, the small room needs to make a statment.

How about two wall hung night stands of equal size which would eliminate the " leggy " look at floor level? Also, a wide, low bench at the foot of the bed would be a good place to put on shoes, park decorative pillows at night etc. Instead of three dinky pictures use one long narrow paiinting over the bed. The wall does not look that big, actually, unless your bed is a lot bigger than a king. Wallpaper seems to be makiing a comeback now, just when I need to remove most of mine! I would probably not put any up. Mirrors add visual size to a room, but might not be what you want to see the first thing in the morning.

No to wallpaper. Too hard to change when you tire of it. I like the idea of the design on the paint roller. Fun and easy to paint over.

Nix to TVs and mirrors in a bedroom. I know, hubby will probably resist the no TV.

@Bonnie Yes, Photoshop is awesome...I love 'playing' with it. I like your idea of framing the photos together in one long frame. My dentist did this with 4 of his diplomas in the hall of his office and it looks awesome. It would definitely give more presence to the photos and make them seem like one piece of art.

Picture frames are ok actually, you'd better choose some different size frames to hang on wall.
Another way is some long floating shelves, you can place the picture frames on shelves also.
Mirror is not a good suggestion i think.If a mirror, when you walk into the room in dark, you will be frightened by the people in mirror.

It will Helena and it would make it more personal since you would be picking out the frame, matting, etc. We are limited on our wall space since we live in a condo so we have been picking or buying things to custom frame that we know we will like for many years to come. Custom framing is expensive and I am really picky when choosing my frame, matting, etc. I also like the using the roller brush wall stencil because if you don't like it later on, you can paint over it. Wall paper is so hard to remove from the walls.

I got two metal hearts that were meant to hang on a wall and look like titanium. One is a little larger than the other. I am having them framed in a shadow box frame vertical, putting the larger heart on top. I can't wait to see how it looks when it's done. It will be a piece of art and a memory of Valentines day which makes it very special.

I will try to post when I get my art back after it's been framed.
