Along a road in zone 7b--a developer planted a very long line of some type of shrub rose in the parking strip.

I believe they are a rose as they :

have thorns

smell like a rose

look like a rose-though simple and like a wild/native rose

They grow in a beautiful orderly round shrub form-probably though shaped by a landscape crew. They likely get almost no maintenance/water though and look great always.

I am stumped to identify this as the leaves are unlike rose leaves generally. The leaves are long and slender-running opposite ea. other.

Any ideas?
