This is such a perfect spot for a gazebo/canopy. We just put ours up this weekend and I remember how much it adds to our space both visually and from a practical perspective. Shade is a big one, you can also draw the netting so you can sit out late into the evening without the bugs bothering you. Then because it is covered, you can also add an outdoor rug and an iron chandelier with candles - makes for a wonderful outdoor room vs just sitting at a table.

I'm missing the pool and the great weather as well..live in Toronto!That's why I love my gazebo..already started using it, even though it's been chilly and rainy. Helps make the summer longer.

How about an awning attached to house over slider? We had an umbrella for years, seemed to always in the way. Last year when we redid the deck we got an awning, can't figure why I waited 20 years

There are also some really large umbrellas that are weighted/on wheels. My brother has one and they cover a large space. The advantage of these is if you decide to add some seating, they can be moved/tilted to then accommodate either your of set ups. With the lovely area that you have, I would be moving the table over so you could accommodate some comfy seating.

Red would have punch and then add some red place mats and candles or cushions. There are Market Umbrellas that are really cute.
