@PirateFoxy, I've looked at consoles but worry that the wires for the components that do show will annoy me or that it might not look heavy enough to anchor the TV? We do plan to wall mount the TV but didn't want to get into dealing with the cable box/DVD player too. I didn't think this would be so hard:)

Thanks so much Jennifer K!!!! Upholstered furniture has to stay. I would like to replace the one chair by the fireplace though (as well as the end table) so suggestions welcome for those too:) I know the rooms screams traditional so I'm trying to move away from that a little with a Transitional/Contemporary TV stand but also want it to look like it belongs there and not that I tried to move away from Traditional and failed miserably:) I so appreciate your help! What are your thoughts on these?

Love the idea of the Counterpoint Credenza just not the price tag of $4880 :)

Also like the half moon table. This one would take up every last inch of that space (48 inches) and come out a little farther but definitely think it could work. I'll be googling it to see if I can find reviews or at a local store I can easily return to if needed :)

Yeah, that console is scary expensive. But first we find the look and then we find the piece that fits the budget!

I wouldn't let concerns about wires push me away from a look I preferred - some work will have to be done to mount the TV safely, a conduit could be installed at the same time to run the wires through so they are hidden except for behind the tv and at the back of the boxes they need to connect to. For the money you are considering for furniture I would at least look into it.

That said, since the TV and console seem to be the focal point of the room, rather than the fireplace, if you want to stick with an actual cabinet style console I would look with a very open mind at statement pieces - you know those items that are works of art in their own right in addition to being furniture? (My personal favorite of this type are the handpainted and gilded pieces you sometimes see, where a lot of work has gone into both the piece and the decoration on it?)

Idea being if you find something with that wow factor then it will serve as a focal point to the room even with the TV off.

Both the Tessuto and Lawrence look great but are mid century. The counterpoint one is lovely also but gives a little country vibe. Just make sure you hang the TV 5" above the console so that it relates to the console and doesn't look like you just stuck the console under it

Ah thanks Jennifer K! I'm really liking the Hadley. The reviews refer to it as rustic yet classic and it seems like a versatile piece. Little concerned about all glass doors, one because I didn't want to have to deal with accessorizing and secondly I have three children, 2 of them are boys who love to wrestle:) Looks like there are two color choices. The Salt Oak is the more 'gray washed' one and a couple reviews said it looks darker gray in person than in the picture. Wondering if that would look OK? It's just so hard to know without seeing in person but thinking about taking a chance if my husband agrees to assemble:) Any other thoughts I should take into consideration? Thanks in advance. I tried putting the yellower one in the picture and it looked awful. So the salted version is what I put in. I think given your paint colour, it will go well. One thing to do before you order: using painters tape, mark out the exact dimensions of Hadley on the wall and on the floor. Even put some boxes in the taped off area. Now walk around your living room and try sitting in your favourite chair. If the taped off space seems reasonable, then Hadley is probably a winner.

Have you considered a media closet with a pull-out rack? Then you could hide everything (all components) and have it all wired to one spot. You could use any existing closet/storage area. I did this in previous home in a space below stairs, and loved it! I plan to do the same in my new residence.

Don't forget there are some quite nice window films these days - if you like the one with glass doors but don't want the visibility you can see if you see any film styles you like that would go with the design but make the interior less visible. (I might be inclined also to experiment with treating the doors as 'frames' for some very nice fabric or wallpaper - something that would be too much on the walls or upholstered furniture but works as an accent? Like some embroidered brocade, something like that but in keeping with your style.)

Given the problem with the wrestling boys and the all glass doors, Besta comes with wooden doors if wished. I don't know if the remote would work through them though.

The closet solution has been offered by tech pros on a few threads. If I had a spare closet I'd do it, but I don't.

Wow houzzers are a tough crowd! I think your room is lovely...believe me I have seen it all....yours is very nice...here is a beautiful credenza that would add some personality to your space!

On that wall it will look crowded with an appropriately sized credenza under it. The other wall appears to be a larger. Why isn't the TV on the wall where the tallboy is? That would allow you to group the seating around the FP/TV as one focal point and open the current TV wall for a tall piece of casegoods to counter balance the visual weight of the FP. This would also get the furniture off of the walls. The sofa could float perpendicular to the first of the three windows with the hassock 18" from it to be useful, and a sofa table behind it for interest from the entrance. The chair you're keeping could angle at the far trio window with a table and lamp. A new swivel chair could sit about where the current one is at the single window and could turn to watch TV (which could be set on a swivel base for more adjustability.)

The remotes won't work with solid doors but you can get a little thing that you install somewhere (usually near the TV) that is basically a remote control repeater - it picks up the signals from the remote and sends them to an emitter that you have positioned to point at the gadgets that need to be controlled. That's how stuff like a tech closet works even though the DVD player and cable boxes and so on are tucked away out of sight, sometimes not all that close to the TV being used.

Just be careful to read the reviews because I've seen reviews for some cheaper ones that they don't work well even when carefully placed, so I think there's a large variation in how well they're made. (I'm sure some cheap ones work just fine, just read the reviews to make sure you get one of those and not a crummy one. :) )

@decoenthusiaste Believe it or not the far wall space is shorter than where the TV is now which is approx 87 inches. If I'm just measuring the space between the closet wall and single window I believe that was 78 inches and I wouldn't be able to use that entire space because it would bump up to the closet door and overlap.

Perhaps they could make the Hadley with solid doors? Only because when I ordered my wooden furniture I asked for tweaks : squared off bevels, rounded top edges, extra shelves etc.

I understand why you have it on that wall...doesn't compete with fireplace and isn't the first thing you see or smack you in your face...with a cream colored credenza it will blend into your space...keep it on that side wall.....but I hate to say it but tall skinny bookcase really needs to go...then you can move your chair over slightly away from fireplace and move your large ottoman closer to your sofa...should be about 18" from front of sofa.

I wish @Tribbletrouble! I read a question and answer on a site that sells the Hadley and someone asked that question and was told no. I found out that Hadley is a Sauder product (Barrister Lane Credenza) and I can order it from Walmart for a little over $300 so I think I'm going to take a chance on it (can easily return...well not easily b/c it sounds like the packaging is giant!) but it makes me feel better to know I can schlep it back to Walmart if it was THAT bad. Just need to convince my husband to assemble it with me. He just finished another project for me last week and swore never again so have to gauge how fresh that frustration is.....lol

My goodness! You have run the gamut of tv credenza options! I rather like the green one myself! If I am seeing this correctly you have green in your upholstery and this room is crying for some color! I also like that it fills the space and is tall. No to all those short and dare I say rather cheap looking ones! This is a very nice room; get something worthy! For some reason the wood pieces jump out too much and as was stated already are to small anyway.

These are from Hooker furniture. If they have solid doors they are outfitted with photoelectric eyes for you equipment.

The green one is the Cranmore from Wayfair. It's unfortunately only 60" long which might be a bit short. It has a bigger brother that sadly doesn't come in green.

Update: New TV credenza, wall mounted TV, removed bookcase, moved peacock picture from above the fireplace to the front entrance of the room and above the new chrome leg table (using existing nail for picture so need to move it up so it's not touching the light switch, hoping it won't look too high?). Love everything! It just looks so empty now, needs some color. Any suggestions for something above the fireplace (flat wall space measures 70'' wide by 60'' tall), accessories for the credenza, end tables, etc? I'd really like to keep the sconces and am thinking about putting some colorful film (leaves) in the transom windows. Thank you all!

Traditional, it looks very nice! You need to separate the sconces more! They are too close together. A large painting on that blank wall would look great too!

If you want colourful window film, this one might work:

It picks up on the teal in the peacock and blanket; it's loose enough to not feel tradional; and it's pretty without being in-your-face.

I agree with Lyn that the sconces need to be further apart. I'll work up a mock-up later tonight. If you post some window film options, I can include them too.

So here are some mock-ups. The two most important things I did were

• move your sconces apart
• dye your couch pillows teal

Then I tried a bunch of different art, with and without window film. My conclusion is that coloured window film would be very hard to co-ordinate with. Also, I think more birds to go with your peacock and your bird pillow might be nice. Have a look:

I thought for sure it would feel lighter and be the better alternative to any other window dressing (considering the windows are so close to the fireplace). Do you think the leaf option would look any better since there's more white space? Leaf window film I'm loving all the color though :)

Oh no that window film will really outdate your beautiful space:( why not just hang soft sheer Roman shades in a soft pattern. Classic and timeless look.

I have Whittier furniture and love it. You can finish it to work with your decor, paint stain ect.

After doing the mockups, I think maybe that putting colour+pattern up there will draw the eye away from where you want it. If I put film in the transom, I think I'd go with a frosted/clear look with no colour. A similar uncoloured pattern like this one might work better than the coloured leaves. Put the colour+pattern lower down (e.g. pillows or a hand-blown glass vase) so that you can gaze upon it without getting a crick in your neck.

I can't imagine it is very easy to watch tv during the day in this room. Plantation shutters would look nice here.
