what does three hole mean?

Does that mean three hole for each faucet, so you could do a widespread faucet? Or is each hole meant for a single faucet?

A 3-hole configuration is typically used for a faucet with separate hot and cold handles.

Can you make a 3 hole for 3 separate faucets? Can the opening locations be dictated?

The 3 hole selection in the drop down will be a standard 8" spread, intended for a faucet with a hot and cold handle in the middle of the sink (pictured first).

The drilling you are looking for of 3 individual faucets, evenly spread, is a special order 3 hole configuration (pictured second below). This would be a final sale item once the custom drilling is ordered, and would not be able to be canceled or returned.
