2016 May Block Lotto

This lotto is open to all and new quilters are encouraged to participate. You will learn much and have fun doing it. Even if you don't like the current month's block think about doing at least one. The winner will appreciate your efforts!

Here's the drill:

- you can send 1, 2 or 3 blocks

- all blocks must measure 12.5inches x 12.5 inches with no more than 1/4" variation please. With your blocks include name, mailing address, forum name and $1 to cover postage for the winning blocks.

- if possible, either attach your name to the back of each block or write your name in the seam allowance with a fabric pen so the winner knows who made the block (this is not a requirement, just a request)

- all blocks received by the last day of the month will be included in the lotto drawing

- you will have 1, 2 or 3 chances to win, depending on how many blocks you've sent in.

Blocks are to be mailed to Linda. She will arrange the collection and dispersal to the winner. If you need her mailing address, you may request it by sending her a message at linda at schultz-assoc.com

This is as close as I could come to a polka dot. Hope it's okay. Linda has it already.

Looks like polka dots to me! Nice job Lois & Jennifer!

Good job, Beth. We needed green. And the big dots are fun!

Just got back from vacation and found a pile of envelopes. Will open them soon but wanted these four to know their blocks are safely in my hands:

Beth and Patty in Florida, Jennifer in Georgia, and Nancy in Kansas.

Jennifer's blocks were for Sept. and October. But, I still have 28 in this drawing. That's a big pile. If anyone has more in transit, or wishes to leave their name out of the drawing because they've won a lot, let me know by end of the day. I'll do a drawing tonight and post winner tomorrow. Thanks to all who have participated.

Just to clarify, I already have Jennifer's for this month. They came earlier.

Please leave my name out of the drawing. I have enough to keep me busy for a bit. Thanks everyone.

The man of the house has drawn the bean and this pile of 28 blocks is heading off to Georgia, to Jennifer. Congratulations, Jennifer.

Congrats Jennifer! Looking forward to seeing what you make!

Hey Jennifer, congrats. If you need three more blocks, let me know. I cut them out and never got them sewn. One each, Navy, Kelly Green and Bright Yellow with little dots. The white is a white on white print. Just email me through Houzz (at least you could on Gardenweb) with a mailing address and I'll send them to you, still unsewn. I'm looking forward to seeing this quilt.

    Nice win, Jennifer. Congratulations.

Thank you so much for the extra blocks, BK. So very sweet of you!

Below are a couple of photos, which don't do the blocks justice as you can't see all the fun polka dots, beautiful wow fabrics, and all the perfect points.

Need to decide on the layout. Thinking I prefer a random layout (similar to the one shown in the bottom photo) versus attempting a diagonal layout. It'll give me something to think about while I sash them!

What a fun quilt. It just dawned on me how much the pinwheels look like the state of Texas. Too much wine maybe? Jennifer, what kind of sashing will you use?

No such thing as too much wine! I see TX, too!

Honestly, Lois, I really have no idea. This is only my 3rd quilt, so I'm winging it. I found an inspiration photo on the web, but due to the variance in the blocks it won't work. So I'm thinking of adding solid white coping strips between the blocks (really just to square them up). Batting and backing are ready to go. Further down is a photo of the backing fabric (navy floral polka dots). The long arm quilter will take it from there and then maybe bind in red?!

But I'm open to suggestions! :-)

I really like them laid out without sashing. When you say ' variance', are you saying they don't all measure at 12 1/2".

    Gotta love those colorful pinwheels!

I have some smaller pinwheel blocks. I have a photo bookmarked for inspiration. Now all I need to do is get the motivation to finish 2 quilt tops. Promised myself I would finish those tops before starting anything new.

Your bright blocks will make a happy quilt, whatever the layout.
