It is hard to get a photo of mine: its long and narrow. It is 1923 and has great wood trim still in excellent condition.

Wonderful rooms, ladies!!!

We're heavily into collecting Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts furniture and decorative pieces and we deliberately chose our current three storey house because - whilst it was built in 1853 - the extension put on in 1924 is in Arts & Crafts style, so it is a perfect match for our stuff! We also love deep, saturated colours and Pre-raphaelite art (although obviously we can't afford the originals!) and I guess some would consider our style to be rather Old Lady ;) Currently this house is a work in progress - we only bought it in December 2014 - so neither of our living spaces are finished.

The ground floor 'snug' (first 5 pics) currently has hideous textured wallpaper and woodchip between every ceiling beam. When we completed on the purchase we quickly slapped on some F&B Brinjal to make the place more like home, but this is due to be removed in the fullness of time as I concede it's too dark!!!

The upstairs Summer sitting room (last 3 pics) with its window seat and door onto a balcony is the room I'm currently working on - stripping ceiling & wallpaper (textured again, grrr!) and will be repainted in a (yet to be decided) historic colour. DH will be fitting our reclaimed fireplace with copper Arts & Crafts hood - height needs adjusting, lol!

Most of the furniture and furnishings have been found on ebay here in the UK ;) It's all really special to us but I particularly love our original and slightly worn Scottish Art Nouveau curved sofa (only £200 + shipping - ignore bright purple cushions as these are just place holders!) and my collection of English Bretby Jewel Ware pots......

Raphael ...Omg, love love love the olive green sofa, your wt, and the window-seat. Actually I like everything, literally everything about your rooms. I wouldn't be a color phobe if I had your eye for mixing. Love your exuberant jumble, down to the waterstained? plaster....

Gosh, I'm flattered....thank you!!! See, I look at everyone else's beautiful spaces and think ours look a bit 'meh'........I particularly love cpartist's rug and schoolhouse's sofa/couch :)

Mtn.....mmmm, that water stained plaster definitely has a touch of the 'rough luxe', lol!!! What you can't see, behind one of the framed plaques (Joan of Arc) is an exposed original gas mantle that came to light (pardon the pun!) when the plaster crumbled away!

Justerrilyn - we're in the UK and the rug came from Liberty in London. It's sadly not an original from the Arts & Crafts period - although it still cost a small fortune - but it's good quality and fab colours :) Curiously most of the Arts & Crafts rugs I've seen when searching online seem to be in the US......maybe we need to do a house swap and stock up on stuff, but then I'd need a shipping container to get all my purchases home!

Bonnie_ann, the house is very much a work in progress, with no room truly finished as yet, but I promise to post up some more pics in the next couple of days......

Thank you LynnNM. We have some unconventional things in our home. The toucan is from an old kiddie ride my husband found at an antique store. He put it on the base. Most of the art is by Houston artists.

I love your home. My style reflects that of your living room. We are building in ETX right now, and I love seeing how my choices could come together!

Jimgalabama, I can't speak for anyone else, but I hate drapes. When we bought our home, it had custom drapery. I took them all down before we moved in.

I love drapes. When they make sense. I had them everywhere in that home (we've moved since), but that living:) The windows were very tall and also..can you say two-parted? In order to make them look nice you should go as high as possible and make them custom-very expensive. In order to justify that expense you should rather be pretty sure it will benefit the room in question. I wasn't sure at all and I didn't see any drapes in the neighbors' similar condos that did these windows any favors, so nothing to inspire me/convince me otherwise. The windows did have semi-transparent blinds for some light control.

i furnished this little townhome and never went to a store. Completely online. Except for the art. I took most of the art from the (messy) divorce. I cannot tell you how great it is to have my very own space, done mostly the way I want it to be done.

Micheltx I hate drapes too! Especially fussy ones. I gave away all the window stuff when I moved in. I use a vintage styled screen in my bedrroom ($24 on Wayfair!) and very plain solar blinds in the screened patio room. I replaced the blinds in the guest room with...new 2inch faux wood blinds, simply because it faces the front and guests may want privacy lol. Back in the eighties I had custom drapery, I was young and trying to "be married". I had even more custom stuff when we did a remodel a few decades ago. These days, I prefer simple.

Aprilneverends, I was really drawn to your living room. Then I realized you are in Ireland. I grew up in Tipperary. I adore your colors. And dammmit color is needed in Ireland lol.

I miss my home country. Hopefully I will get back later this year to see my mom and dad.

lol. no apologies needed, really. I'd love to visit Ireland though one day. I read a book recently..it started as a great book but the ending was kinda..I don't know..like the author was getting tired already? But anyway, it made me wanting go to Ireland even more. I don't know much except for what I saw in films or read in books or heard from people who visited..ah, and lyrics of "Molly Malone" by heart:) But it must be breathtakingly beautiful.

This is our living room. All tv watching is done here in the colder months. We have a sunroom that we use in the warmer times of the year. You know you are getting old when ALL of your furniture reclines ! The room is quite large but the bananas wintering over take up a ton of room.

We don't have drapes because we decided to opt for the crisp, clean (and easy to clean) look of plantation shutters. We had drapes in our old house, but DH hated them. I still like the look of them if they aren't too fussy, but am also glad that there are so many other options from which to choose.

Rockybird - your LR is my fav I do believe & I wouldn't touch that fireplace!

The living room I posted above was a rental and before we bought. Here is my living room now. :) I think my style is cozy but not sure what else.

What a lovely thread. Missed it the first time around, when I no longer had a living room. Still don't. Sigh.

After looking at my own photos I decided my lamps needed changing. So the new ones came today and the new side table will be here next Wednesday. Thank you!

I had posted my LR a year ago. Just had two new chairs delivered and after some rearranging, this is our new setup. Now I need to figure out what to do with my barrel chair.

nhbaskets- I love your new chairs. The large windowpane fabric goes well with the rug and other furniture in the room. The upholstery looks especially well done...all lines are straight & even. I also like the added interest of the new chairs not having arms.
