My mom just bought me this mirror for my living room but I'm affraid it doesn't work. How do I get it all to match? what should I add or remove?

Try a shallow console under the mirror, with a lamp on the chair end. You mat have to reposition the mirror if you do this . Use the ottoman as a coffee table with a tray or a throw on it.

Looked again. You need a rug with a little color in it . Pick up those colors in art and pillows. If you are a monochromatic person go with lots of texture and tones. Mirror is nice.

And again. Too many little things on the shelves. Cluttered.

Your mirror is fab. Either a console table u Nader it and lower it or to be honest I think on its own is fine, but lower it. If you google best methods/height to hang mirrors or pictures it will give you an idea (both with and without console table).

I love your fireplace. There is nothing wrong with what is on it. The top shelve to the right in photo has a bit of small clutter but whose home doesn't!

Not sure what to say about the blue chair until seen in room at angles. Pretty though!

I agree that you need some more accents to help bring the room together. This can be done in the form of pillows and a cohesive grouping of accessories. Since the space is neutral, it's up to you what colours or patterns you would to bring into it. I like the idea of adding a narrow console below the mirror and then moving the chair closer to the couch for a more cohesive sitting area. The fireplace is great.

The mirror would go fabulous with the chandelier in the dining room.

Turn your chair so it mainly faces the sofa, and place a small console table or large end table next to it, under the mirror. Add a lamp to one end. Or, you may be able to fit both the chair and your blue chair under the mirror, with a small round end table between them. Move the ottoman if there isn't space for it, or see if it can function as a coffee table in front of the sofa with a tray on it. Add a rug to incorporate the blues you want. And use just a few large accessories on the mantle - maybe a tall blue vase on one end and a grouping of three things on the other end.

Add color to the walls even if it is just a deep taupe. it will help to get control of the space.

Your new mirror is better suited to the dining room.

would it be too small for the dining room wall?
if I put it in dining room would i have to change my chandelier. ... my intention was to speay it silver as its a gold/bronze color....came with the house

i totally agree with the glam and although i could dream of going in that direction one day itbwould take me years of lookingbat this sore thumb before the rest of the living room came up to par

Mirror too small for dining room
I disagree I think it is fine in the living room and contrasts the fireplace nicely.
Just needs a height change or table below

Your dining room needs a mirror that is larger and a bit more simple so as not to compete w the chandelier.

ok so I moved my chair and ottoman and took my frame off fireplace...also painting the wood color shelf. should i put my blue chair back in room? and i will chnage curtains soon ...need ideas for fireplace decor
  • 10 years ago
The blue armless chair would not be my choice for a living room. Looks more like a small bedroom chair.
You have mirror overload. If you keep the mirror in the living room as it is, I would remove all of the small mirrors on the wall with all the baby stuff. Sometimes less is more . Start looking for some interesting art for your walls, rather than generic mirrors. You're off to a good start with all of your neutral walls and furniture. Now you need color, texture and pattern.

    1. Love your mirror...hang it a little lower and it will be perfect. 2. Or Is it too big to hang over the fireplace? 3. The bookcase thing between the living room and dining room.....can it be taken out and make the rooms more open, or is it too built in and hard to remove? 4. If you want to put your blue chair in the room, put it under the mirror with a table and lamp beside it and have other blue things scattered around the room.

The blue chair is too much if you do not add more blue items around the room like erinsean suggested. In general, I do not think that it suits the space. You could add an upholstered bench with basket storage below as an alternative below the mirror. It can be pulled into the seating area when more guests come over as well.

yes, the book shelf is built in and if I take it out I would have to redo floors : (

will leave the blue chair out for now buw how do I make this room more exciting, colors, items, etc?

I would add a rug to the living room. Your current colors are so neutral that you have a lot of options for colors.

Why did you take framed picture off of fireplace? It was fine. Maybe on the smallish side, but fine. If anything keep picture and candlesticks and just remove one small item.

I agree re blue chair. More of a bedroom chair
Console table or ottoman/storage unit is better. Add artwork where you can. I personally like authentic artwork (can be local so CAN be inexpensive)that you live rather than rushing out to get anything to fill the walls. Keep walls empty until you find the lovely loved artwork.

Add some color with pillows and a blanket/throw.

I took out the frame thinking it's what made the living room casual and this huge expensive mirror can't easily removed....
The black and white is neither casual or firmal. But transitional, like your living space.

Ok so because many have suggested a table under the mirror, which do you think would work with the space best. I know the brick on the fireplace doesn't help but eventually an insert will go in there.
