When does integration start to look tacky?

We have a U shaped kitchen with separate double oven & cooktop. We are getting rid of everything and have several companies proposing ideas.

The kitchen has a low ceiling and is small-medium sized so we don't have a huge space. We were planning on a island with a cooktop - but the 5.5 ft for a cooktop + 15 inches either side required is tricky.

One designer put a Range against a wall and the island can now be smaller but just an island so it looks generous. This means getting rid of the double oven in favor of a range, getting rid of the cooktop in favor of a range and now we can get a Microwave/Vent hood combo. This really saves space for more cabinets.

But now we have sink, dishwasher and range/micro hood right next to each other and somehow it looks too obvious to me that we are trying to compress things to save space. When does this start to look tacky?
