I would have been watering if it weren't raining now and yesterday. We are more than 2" lower in rain than usual, even with what is coming down now. When I dug in the veggie garden there was some moisture starting about 4" down, but quite dry above that.

We got some rain last night (0.13 inches total according to my gauge) but it's been miserably dry for a while now. I've been watering occasionally when I see sprouts, mostly when the daffodils refuse to open their buds, but I also watered the peonies and dicentras.

I also watered two tiny mountain laurels I planted a few weeks ago. I didn't do much planting last fall but I would definitely water them now if I did.

I also watered the roses I pruned really hard in mid-April.

Casual watering is easy for me now that I'm using the hose to flush and fill the birdbaths. I just spritz the plants on the way to the birdbaths.

We have not had a good rain storm since last spring in my area..all we get is no more than an inch for the last 2 years and mostly cold drizzle..Really stinks here. We did not even get any snow..In my area, the ground is dry even 6 inches down or more..I have had to dig up most of my perennials and refurbish the soil with Cow Manure in the hopes it would stay a bit more moist. so far so good. I find myself watering quite often too.

Pray for some torrential downpours instead of these measly drops..

I watered the blueberry bushes we transplanted last fall just last week since it was so dry. Would have been watering the whole garden this week if we weren't getting this rain.

I've been watering already too. There hasn't been enough rain and everything was drier than I remember seeing in the past springs. A whole week of dreary weather and my Rain Gauge has only collected about an inch and a half of rain.

PM2, surprised we´ve had that much. And it is so unpleasant and I´ve become such a wuss that I won´t go out and transplant or weed.

It has been very dreary and it does take away some of the motivation. [g] I wish I had sown more seed before the rain, it would have kept itself moist all week! The soil's been too wet to dig, I think. Another three days of this too!

I just loooked at the UMass May 6 report, reliably provided by Claire, and my rain estimates were pretty close. In Metro west a .62 gain. I thought Maybe we ´d gotten a half inch by now. I´ll go out and spread some Plant tone and let the rain do its job.
