If you expected Bloomerang to look like old-fashioned lilacs (Syringa vulgaris) with their larger leaves and lavender flowers it won't. It is a hybrid that has smaller leaves, more delicate flowers with a less intense scent to my nose, and is smaller overall. (Syringa vulgaris also has varieties that range in color from white and pink to a very dark purple and bicolored blooms.)

Your photos look about right for Bloomerang Dark Purple ('SMSJGP7'). There's also Bloomerang Pink Perfume and the original usually just referred to as Bloomerang with the cultivar name 'Penda'.

Thanks NHBabs for IDing this for me. I didn't realize that there is a Bloomerang deep purple. I thought I bought the original purple.
