Kitchen design help needed

Hi everyone,

We’re in the midst of a long-overdue kitchen upgrade and are a bit stuck. I’m hoping for some help to get back on track:

It’s a 30-year-old kitchen in need of an upgrade. Our goals are: cosmetic update (new cabinets, counters and appliances), more storage and more counter space. We’re empty nesters who like to cook, but don’t need a high-end gourmet kitchen. We’ve played around with a lot of ideas, and briefly worked with a KD, but I’m not sure we’re on the right track. Here's where we're starting:

So, we want to remove the old closet-style pantry and turn it in to cabinets. The refrigerator will be counter depth. Cabinets above the fridge are 24” deep. Cabinet to the right of the fridge is 15” deep.

We're moving the sink 12” to allow for a lazy susan in the corner, so that means moving the window too. We’re considering some cityscaping on the cabinets to the right, pushing back the outer sections to 21” or 22” deep, leaving the two center drawers as 24”.

Our biggest area of confusion is the sink wall – we’re just not sure what to do with that long wall. We’re ok with bringing the bottom of the large window up to allow a counter, but the original plans from our KD had cabinets on both sides of the big window, which brought the width down from 70” to about 30”. The design was symmetrical, but the window was just too small. My attempt at improving this makes the window 48”, but not nearly as symmetrical.

Microwave: Not sure where this will go. I suppose to the right of the refrigerator in a built-in cabinet above the counter?

Any other thoughts or feedback? I’m just not sure we’re thinking of everything.

My additional feedback assuming that the half height wall overlooks entertainment space would be to continue your cabinetry along that wall. allowing the counter top to sit atop the wall, creating great prep space or serving space.

Depending on the height of the drop to the family room: I have occasionally been able to turn that area into 32" height from the kitchen (perfect for baking), raised bar height from the family room.

Per the uppers: I always find two glass doors surrounding a solid door an odd arrangement. Either move the glass doors to the center of just do one large paired glass door cabinet. I would also consider open shelve in this area between the windows as it eliminates the dilemma of not having symmetry.
