My current bathroom isn't large enough to use for all my clothes. I do however store all my under things there. It makes dressing easier after a shower. I don't have an en suite anymore , so when I return to my room I only have to switch my robe for my dress or skirt and blouse. In my former house the bathroom and closet were attached.

It all depends on how the room is configured.

Most of us have washrooms where we wouldn't have to worry about deciding to add or not - lol.

I would only prefer this idea if it was in the master. Meaning that this would only be used by myself or my significant other. I don't think we would like it if our personal items were viewed by others.

no matter how good the ultimate ventilation, if you have a good head of steam made for a cozy shower, it lays in your closet among your clothes like a fog. i'll pass!

@Maureen -- Old kitchens used to be small also, but they got a lot bigger when they got combined with a sitting area and then a dining room (and now with the living area as well). At the same time, the area for applying make-up has moved from the bedroom to the bathroom, and the bathrooms got bigger. I guess I wonder if having a multi-purpose washing/dressing/make-up area is where the bathrooms are headed, and if the no-moisture-with-clothes rule will go the way of the no-cooking-smell-in-the-living-area rule. I personally am a dinosaur -- I like my kitchen enclosed and my bathrooms tiny and single purpose (the small wet rooms that can be seen in Europe are much more my style).

Living where we do it is so humid you have to dehumidify the house anyway. We keep the bathroom window open when we shower unless it's really cold , which rarely happens. I have a high power fan too. It's probably no more humid in my bath than my bedroom. We had a dehumidifier added to the HVAC system or we would be able to grow mushrooms on the floors. Everything being equal I go for the ease of having things in reach.

This would work if you have proper ventilation and the room!

@Barbara, I get that one. I had two brothers. I didn't even like sharing a house with them in their teens.

I walk past my closets into the ensuite. Each one has a door so moisture is not a problem. The bathroom door is on the bedroom side of the closets so they are really a part of the bath. I love it because everything is so handy while getting ready.

And I thought closets in the bathroom might be questionable...

In the Victorian era it was called an airing cupboard, generally found in the washroom or attached to it. It held washroom linens and smalls ( That's undies folks) this isn't a new thing .

TT they aren't organized by height either. I thought you were supposed to cover them in book covers so they were all the same color?

No kidding. Although my Dad had a massive book collection. When we made him mad he made us organize them like a library by the dewy decimal system. Even had to make cards once. I was eleven I spent two weeks during the summer at it. I never told him to drop dead again. Come to think of it that's where I get my mean streak.

Very dark interior bathroom with no windows where you have to walk past the built in closet to get to the bathroom. Taking down the closet means you get natural light AND ventilation into the bathroom. As for moisture, it's a bathroom not a steam room, and you install a fan on a 60 minute timer. Problem solved.

Just can't imagine it would be a good idea with moisture generated from shower and bath.

I actually think it's a really interesting idea. I've been doing it as part of my routine for quite a few months now, was wondering if anyone did the same. No more walking to the bedroom and slowly depleting the towel supply from the bathroom! Also if you have a dirty clothes hamper in there, all the clothes go to one place. f you have an automatic bathroom fan like me, the humidity shouldn't be an issue at all. Clothes are steamed anyways! So technically you're steaming them while folded? (Or on hangers depending on what the designer chose, lol). I think it's actually a pretty cool part of my routine!

We are starting our MB remodel very soon. I asked for the large tub to be removed so that there was room to add a wardrobe cabinet, to be used only by hubby and me. It will have two cabinets on the top, one for each of us, and smaller drawers on the bottom. We both like to set out our clothes for the next day, so that’s what this is designed for, plus storage of “smalls” and accessories. And yes, we are installing a very good ventilation fan on a timer. I can’t wait!

In the desert, my walk-in closet is off the bathroom, and the bathroom is pretty much open to the master bedroom. Because we have such low humidity, none of this is a problem. In fact, I am often dry after coming out of the shower even without using a towel.

Humidity is not a problem in my closet, and it does have a door to the bathroom, but there is no door between the bathroom and the bedroom.

If the bathroom is big enough and has proper ventilation, there's no reason not to -- it could be like an extension of a dressing room or walk-in closet.

We added a wardrobe cabinet in our MB remodel. We love it. It adds tons of storage and is highly functional. We have a new Panasonic Whisper fan with auto sensor for humidity control.
