Upper level ceiling height

We are in the process of building a home, foundation was done last week. I was looking over the plan and noticed the ceiling height on our plan from the builder shows 9' main level with 8' upper. However the inspiration plan we had showed 8' in all rooms upstairs except for in the master which showed 10' and a vaulted master. The plan accounts for the vaulted master but don't see the 10' anywhere. We are having a tray ceiling put in the master and so I'm curious if a tray ceiling would look ok in 8' master or not? I think they might have missed that and if so not sure if I should just stick with the 8' or mention to the builder that it should be 10'. I'm guessing our cost will go up?

8 feet is a bit low for a tray ceiling... it would be similar in feel to the kitchen soffits in an 80s vintage kitchen.

talk to the builder. your cost will go up but now is the time to do it as you'd like.

10' it's to high, specially if you have winter season,all the heat will rise up and you will have a cold feel bedroom. With an 8' wall height you can raise your ceiling and do a nice vaulted ceiling design and do a step tray off of that and you will end up with a beautiful ceiling design. Furthermore for the amount of money they will charge you to make a 10' ceiling and reconfiguring roof planes, you will save a bundle of money working with an 8' wall height.

I agree a 10’ ceiling in a bedroom makes no sense to me, bedrooms should be warm and inviting and high ceilings are not that IMO. I don’t even like 10’ ceilings on the main floor because of the extra cost of heating and cooling.

just so the OP understands, GN builders (lovely) diagram has 9ish foot ceilings.
