I prefer tile for kitchen, I guess if you like hardwood floor there's the hardwood tile look too!

I do not think there are more current thoughts on this. Often, hardwood is used throughout and many like the seamless look of one floor type. But, it is also perfectly fine to have tile in the kitchen and often in the foyer too. There is also a difference depending on geography. Many in states that have long winters do not like tile because it can fee really cold, and some other areas of the country prefer tile throughout because of humid conditions that are not best for wood or sandy beaches that mean lots of sand in the house which can be hard on hardwood floors.

I am a big fan of continuous floors so that means wood floors in the kitchen. I have had four homes with wood floors in the kitchen and one with tile (first home)! Tile floors are unforgiving if you drop something on them and can be tough on your lower back if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen. The wood floors hold up great - really give your home an upgraded look.
