redbud tree help!!

my eastern redbud tree bloomed for the first time since we moved in. (2 years ago July 2014) I have noticed however every winter the branches have been dying off. not sure what to do. should I prune the tree? it's quite a large section so I wasn't sure what to do with it. it's such a pretty tree and I don't want to lose it.
