I would feel very apprehensive about liming/bleaching the pine especially as it is in a historic home and it pine!! (a soft wood). When this trend has run its course and you have grown weary of it that means completely re-sanding. I would consider a less invasive measure with lime wax. Buy some pine to test it on first (sand down first then wax as directed) to see how the effect works for you. That's my take on this situation, but if it wasn't a vintage floor I would def. try out more aggressive techniques only after fully testing the results first. That is key. Best of luck!

PS Osmo makes a hardwax in a few diff white shades. Hardwax is great as there is no plastic/artificial coating like varathane gives you
