Go for a collection of pillows, with no two matching. Pick mostly solid colour fabrics even if they are not a plain weave but with a tone-on-tone pattern. Other pillows could relate to the pattern in the rug. For instance, pick one of those patterns and choose a design that has those two colours. Specifically, look at the red/orange combo, the blue/green combo, the black/green combo. You certainly are adventurous! But this will make a very nice eclectic statement.

I like the idea of mostly solid pillows but add a thin welt in a contrasting color for more interest. Like an orange pillow with a teal welt. But make it very thin cording (Samuel and Sons has a wonderful option in a huge color range) because I think they're more elegant that way. Have fun with the pillows and think about a throw blanket, too!

Fun rug! I recommend that you have at least two 20x20 inch pillows on each sofa. Additional pillows can be smaller, but designers say that you should have some of this larger size so that it looks rich. Applaud your use of color and good luck!

Thank you all for the suggestions! This is super helpful. We are, in fact, moving somewhere new. We're moving from Boston to California so we'll be redoing much of the house. I usually gravitate towards neutrals and jewel tones but I decided to mix it up for something brighter. We're only going to be in California for a few years so I wanted to challenge myself to do something outside my comfort zone... this rug is certainly that! I'm excited to use this as the starting point for the rest of the rooms. I'm working on a blue and orange theme for the patio which will be just off the living room where this rug will be. I'm loving the idea of pulling out some of the similar colors that you all have gravitated towards in your comments. Thank you all again and I know I'll be posting more as we start buying things for the rest of the house in the coming months.
