Paint Brick?

What would you suggest to brighten up this brick fireplace? I was thinking either whitewash or copper. I would value your design expertise!

definitely whitewash--that is quite a large fireplace and the whitewash will brighten up the space.

We had this huge expansive heavy red brick wall fireplace in our open concept kitchen/family room. The best decision we ever made was to paint it white. It cost us $400 to pay someone to do it and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It makes the room so much lighter and brighter. I understand your in trepidation. I had the same feelings because it is such a huge decision and there isn't a lot of google image searches pertaining to such a drastic interior brick wall but I'm here to tell you that it is well worth the change!
