We had an unfortunate incident with hand-screened reproduction wallpaper (custom made) being damaged by a painter with blue tape, so be really careful.

Sombreuil, after much thought I opted to use a straight edge of paper, thumbtacked over the wallpaper ... just imagining the wallpaper's possible damage ~ gave me heart burn :)

Push edge (only) down with a fingernail. Gently press the rest down. Remove as soon as you can (paint dries to tape and becomes one piece.

TEST, TEST, TEST

Use a drier brush. Be prepared for 2 coats.

Test

Sometimes in delicate cases, I remove the tape before the paint dries. Stick the tape strips somewhere like a door frame while everything dries, flip it and re apply and paint again using the opposite edge of the same tape. Actually I do that all the time. Hate to waste money on expensive tape.
