Male or Female Goldendoodle

Hi. We are in the process of adopting a goldendoodle. We have found a reputable breeder and spoken to many people who got their dogs from him.

We have the option of a female miniature golden doodle f1b with a curly coat that is available now.

Or a male from a litter that was just born within the last week. The males are from a medium goldendoodle and poodle. We dont know what their coat will be like

What would be your preference? Male or female puppy and why?

I don't have a goldendoodle, but I do have both a male and a female dog. I love them both, but I really prefer the female. I love to walk and the male has to stop at every little place to pee. My girl pees once, maybe twice if its a long walk. That might be something you wouldn't care about, but I've come to realize that I only want females from now on. I know some people train their dogs to only walk and not stop, but I feel like the walks are for the dogs too, so we stop constantly. My dogs are different breeds, so I can't say anything to the difference of their temperaments. They are both happy, funny dogs. Both go to the groomers. Is that something you will have to do? I would prefer the smaller female to a larger male. Just my preference.

I happen to prefer females. having both male and female dogs throughout the years, I find females a little easier to train. And (don't hit me) smarter. Glad you have found the breed that will fit your family.

Because of the poodle intelligence & golden loving, wanting to please I think either sex would make a wonderful pet. I don't know about. The coats.

Only can share my experience with a male terrier. Although he is a darling, fun dog who has brought joy to our family, he is a "marker," including people's ankles, tote bags sitting on the ground, other dogs' rear legs, BBQ covers--you name it. Certainly this is not a trait of all males, but if I ever get another dog, it will be female.

I have 2 male dogs(one's a terrier) and they mark outside & sometimes inside:(.

They're both neutered too but wrestle ALL THE TIME and sometimes that includes humping...and sometimes they mix it up with one of the cats, who doesn't seem to mind....

Previously had a female terrier and she was just great! She was smart, loyal and didn't have issues with urinating. I love my boys but man they sure act stupid sometimes! Just saying...:)

I'm one who also prefers females. I've had males before and didn't mind but if I have the option to choose, I always prefer female, they are smarter and they also have seem more eager to please.

I have two F1 goldendoodles, a male and a female. I also have another male that is a different breed. The doodles are a few years apart in age, and both are incredibly sweet tempered, cuddly, and gentle. The male is more independent, and the female a little needy, but both are two of the finest, most loving dogs I've ever owned. One's coat is tight curls, the other has a more wavy coat, and both shed minimally. I don't think I could have predicted the coats of either based on what they looked like as puppies. Having owned dogs all my life, I don't really see much difference between a neutered male or a spayed female.

While I haven't experienced any negatives to owning neutered males, females' urine is much harder on the lawn. Also—just a weird side note—both of my current males never learned to raise their legs when peeing, perhaps because the older male only had the example of two females when he was a puppy, and my youngest male dog had both male and female examples demonstrating a squatting pee when he was a pup.

The breeder I bought my doodles from always charges a premium on the female doodles, due to many dog buyers' preference for females. She agrees fixed males and females make equally wonderful pets.
