Sure looks like Pyralis farinalis, the meal moth. That curved abdomen is just one clue of its identity, other than the wings. It's not really interested in your citrus, just using it as a resting place.

They are a pantry pest! Flour, pasta, boxed mixes, nuts, bread, grains, dried pet foods, bird seed, etc. I don't think that all of the traps in the world will help if their food source isn't eliminated.

A lot of money is spent every year on traps and poisons that are not very effective if at all. The eggs that hatch into thye larva that become the Moths are in the foods we eat because the USDA has determined that it is too expensive for the processors to screen the eggs out of those products.

many bugs are cyclical ... in the sense that this is hatching time ... and in a week or 3... they will be all hatched out ... and be gone ...

the trick is to not let the next generation arrive ... and you are working on that by vacuuming them up ... so keep it up ...

i am surprised you have an oak barrel indoors ... could they have come in with that.. is it a new transplanting ... did you sterilize your potting media before use ...?? .. could you have brought them indoors???

and i suppose it might go without saying.. have you cleaned out the panty ...???

ps: i seem to think.. one time.. i got a bad bag of bird seed .. with bugs in it.. long ago .. no IDs ... you arent storing a sack of that in the room..????

The USDA allows a certain amount of insect eggs and fecal matter in the foods we eat because it is too expensive to screen them out. The USDA allows that on the advice of the producers of the foods, not because they have researched it or done much of anything else. The rules have been in place for longer than I have been.

Many producers do add Diatomaceous Earth, food grade, in an effort to try and suppress the larva that hatch from those eggs. Things such as bird seed are not covered by the USDA so they are more apt to have the moths. However, I have not had bird seed around long enough to produce the wee buggers. The birds, here, devour seed here faster than we can fill the feeders.

I have the same moths but i think they're larva are in my plants, any experience any one?
