It's a lovely home. If replacing the roof, I would go with a medium gray to darker gray color instead of the same color You have now. For eaves, fascia, and trim, and garage doors, I would coordinate with the roof color for impact, as I think the lightness of your trim color just makes the lovely angles of your home fade away. When re-doing your roof, replace the skylight with a modern on that is flat, that upgrade will go a long way in updating your home. I would try this first before diving into removing brick. White or light gray roof it would look good and it's practical from the energy stand point. The fascia , trim , and garage door I would do a muted color perhaps yellow or sage green. I would leave the brick alone which I think you are saying. I can't see anywhere where you have stucco, however if you wish to change or refresh some chose the darkest color in the brick. It will coordinate showing the details of the house better right now the house looks flat where it has some really nice details.

No, the stucco and stone would go on top of the existing brick. It would literally be just for aesthetic reasons, not functional as the brick is in good condition. I just wanted to make the front house more modern, and stone and stucco seems like the 'in' thing to do in Toronto at least. It makes cookie cutter subdivision homes look a little more custom.

As for the colours, I am thinking of going dark for the roof to add some contrast to the rest of the house. I would match the eaves and soffits with the roof. Since the the garage doors are new already, I'll probably just keep them the same. Not sure if i can't paint them because they are vinyl(?) doors.

I was thinking of doing a stone skirt, and stucco above it. Kind of like the photo attached (but of course my house isn't so grand).

you're right, the example photo you've given does look very "Toronto". I always lean towards doing design that is more architecturally engaging, but if you were to do this I'll bet it would really make your home stand out in your neighbourhood (and in a good way!). What I mean is, I'm guessing your home looks very typical to the other houses in your 'hood; updating it even to this "toronto-esque" level of finish would really make it stand out beautifully.

I think your house is a lot nicer than your example house. But I have an overly strong negative reaction to flashy houses with snap-in window muntins.


I would definitely not re-side my house to align with a 2016 sub-division trend, even if it is popular in more upscale subdivisions.

I think these barn lights will add a lot of liveliness to the front of your house. They are also customizable (on cocoweb dot com website) which is pretty amazing!
