Really not my part of the country but you might try browsing the universities and/or cooperative or agricultural extensions in your neck of the woods. They tend to have publications written in great detail about the local region.

For what it's worth, I've had the Tilford book for years and it's been useful. I wonder if he's written a guide for the Eastern US?

The Peterson guides are well-respected, and it looks like there are at least a couple for your area.
