Spread your furniture out a bit more, making a 12' by 12' (or so) conversational area, similar to your photo. Then select a color or three from your chairs, fireplace, and art: look at area rugs which will either hold all your furniture or the front legs of all your furniture. Once you gave arranged the furniture, measure from the back of one sofa to the back of the other, and from the hearth to the back of your chairs. (Be sure to make room for a coffee table or ottoman/table in the center.). I like about 15-18" between my sofa and the coffee table. Use those two measurement, and the colors you have chosen, for selecting a rug. Maybe take a chair cushion with you. Once you have your rug and furniture arrangement, you can decide upon tables, lamps and additional pieces. It's a nice room.
