It depends what your actual house style is. A lot can fall under the contemporary style category. Can you post photos of your house?

yeah, depends. I like the simple shaker doors (8401) in a transitional setting, then the 5-panel feel a bit more edgy, and your glossy door is even more modern. so it would depend where you fall on the funky factor in terms of bath, kitchen, and furnishings.

Everything is still under construction so the best I can do is share renderings and a progress photo or two. Kitchen is going to be very modern with integrated appliances and no handles.

Maybe your friend was referring to the original design/outside of the house that may be more traditional and she thinks inside and outside should match? Your renovations are very non-traditional so that wouldn't be a concern to me at this point.

Is the door all white? What are the lines made of (can't really see from the pic)? Would you be painting it?

It is definitely non-traditional and could work with your renders. It also made me think of these types of doors which, in the right wood tone, could work with your concepts as well.



Hardware/handles will also make a big difference whether it reads as traditional or not.

I'm purposely avoiding the term contemporary because it's a personal pet peeve ;). See, contemporary means "of the same time or era", and as such I can't see it describing any style, because what was cool in the 60s and 90s are two different things but would have been contemporary at the time.

Looks like your house will be modern. I would go with a modern door.

Posting a photo of the exterior would help. The interior renderings do look modern.

Simple Shaker doors go with contemporary. I don't care for your favorite. The first door on the top five choices would be my choice.

The exterior of the house is decidedly not modern and already clashes with the interior. I'm going to work on modernizing the look of the exterior but the clay tile roof will always prevent me from being truly modern (unless I decide to change the roof some day $$$).

So holding back on the interior doors to match the exterior makes little sense when I did not hold back on anything else.

To answer the question about the door I posted above, it is a white paint grade door. The lines are molded into the door and not a different material as with the European door that was suggested. That European that door is nice but there's something about wood finish doors that I don't like for interiors. When the walls are white I prefer white doors.

The master bedroom has double doors so I'm thinking about doing something different for that, maybe the one above (in my original post) with five window panes.

More important is to get doors that are solid, not flimsy feeling. I like to use doors with glass lights where ever they make sense, or you need more light.

I think your favorite doors or the 5-pane doors would look the best with your very modern style. Consider also the door frames (frameless is better for modern) and, if you really want modern elegnace, oversized floor-to-ceiling doors are the way to go.

But the TV over the fireplace is not, unless you can hide it behind a big painting or mirror, and there's no wiring showing.

I had the same problem as you did. I liked the same door, but I just had seen them online. I felt like all the other choices were to traditional. The 3 panel would be my second choice, but I ended up just going with a flat slab door like my cabinets and painted them white. We love the way they turned out.

My original plan, way back when, was to go with a flat slab door but I'm afraid it will end up looking cheap.

I'd never heard of frameless doors until that was mentioned above. I found some photos online and love that idea. However, there is very little information about them other than the manufacturer's websites. How much does this type of door cost? Anyone have experience with one of the manufacturers of frameless doors? Yet another option to consider and slow down the decision...

I had to make this decision today too! We are doing a big reno on a 70's lakehouse. installed a linear see thru fireplace with gray stacked stone for example. I consulted my decorator friends and they said definitely the 3 panel shaker for a more modern look. Hope this helps!

So after spending countless hours researching frameless doors, I've decided against it for a number of reasons and I'm back to picking doors. I also decided against the three panel shaker and flat slab doors. So it's either the five (or more - Jeld Wen has them with up to seven) panel shaker or the very first door at the top of this thread.

Any fresh insights?

I have a house full of the 4301 and love it, I paired them with chrome emtek levers...

carladr - Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I can't find any online sellers of those doors but from some online message boards it sounds like they are 2-4 times the cost of other doors I am considering. So I can't put them everywhere, but I might use them for my master bedroom where I have double doors.

I'm late coming into the conversation, but also am having a hard time finding modern style doors that are decent quality & affordable. I love Trustyle & if they cost the same as others it would be an easy choice. I just found the Jeld Wen Moda collection & have high hopes for that - waiting for pricing on the 3 panel.

Can you tell me what you selected & if you're happy with it?
