Inbetweendays, I should have looked at your post earlier but I thought you had found the help and it was two-way help.

I figured it was Spinosad and you learned it will kill both beetles and caterpillars ...

Anyway, that is what I learned and I'll suggest that for your tomato plants. No, I don't suspect a caterpillar nor thrips, tho thrips are beetles and Spinosad can kill them. What I suspect is flea beetles. Damage is often described as "shot holes."

Flea beetles don't always cause much trouble for tomatoes. What it amounts to, depends on the year. It's every year for the radish, sometime during the year for broccoli, every 3rd or 4th year for the tomatoes.

Definitely flea beetles. Caught 'em red handed. I picked up some yellow sticky traps and spinosad today. I'll try the traps first and go from there.

Also, apparently radish is a trap crop for flea beetles. Who knew? :-P

The bug in the picture looks kind of like a mosquito hawk, but don't quote me on that.

Flea beetles... they are a fickle bug. One year they demolish my radishes. The next year it's my spuds, then the following year it's turnips and still again tomatoes. About the only consistency I have noticed with them is they always go for either solanaceous or cruciferous plants, though, which one's seems to be a craps shoot. I bought spray last year for them in preparation for the eggplant i grew since apparently those are flea beetle magnets, but I only ever had to spray my tomatoes, they were wholely uninterested in the eggplant.
