I also like sectionals in some rooms but I tend to prefer separate pieces. But, I don't ever like loveseats. I like a sofa, a chair pair (that isn't a match to the sofa in style or color), and if there's still room, a bench or third chair (different from the chair pair).

I like sectionals for family room, but separate pieces for guests or formal living room.

Sectionals can sometime give off a 'bachelor' vibe. If I went that route, I would be sure to pick one that is more sophisticated and wasn't overly masculine.

Pictures and dimensions would be helpful. Usually a sofa and 2 chairs work best.

Sectionals work great in a basement or media room. For any other room, where you are not solely watching tv, a sofa and two nice armchairs work best. Gives you the same amount of seating and everybody isn't lined up side by side. No to a loveseat and no to " matching" sets.
I like a neutral sofa, the best you can afford, as it is the most used piece of furniture and you definitely get what you pay for in sofas.
Then armchairs in a complimentary fabric color or pattern.
