Will you post again when there is a flower? There is just too little to go on from a couple of leaves on a stem.

A flower would help, but I'll take a crazy uneducated guess and say it's some kind of fuchsia. They have purple stems that are tender and succulent. You would be able to slice the stem with your fingernail.

@macranthos: Thanks for interest shown. Sure. Will post photo again when it flowers.
@jaybirdyj: Thanks for your input. the stem isn't tender. Leans on woody side

You have such a diversity of tropical plants in India that I won't even try to guess. Many are yet to be discovered there.

@jaybirdyj: True. And I am a novice in gardening. Hoping it reveals itself when it grows.

I'm probably way off, but it reminds me of Lonicera.

Now that you mention it,it does look like a honeysuckle.Pascalin, where did your plant come from?Does it grow wild in the Gnats or did you buy it somewhere?

There are 20 species of lonicera native to India, and good like trying to find any pics or info of them on the internet.

@jaybirdyj: the leaves and stem do look similar to a variety of lonicera. It just grew in my herb container. I did not buy it. And have not seen a plant similar to it in my immediate surroundings. Yes some varieties of Lonicera does grow here and is found in the region I live. Time will tell if it is one. Thanks for the pointer

I have a small spot I set aside for growing a few tropicals.I have pandan, lemongrass, turmeric and I stuck a couple avocado seeds in there. The turmeric hasn't shown up yet.I planted a ginger root once and it took a long time to come up too and it's in the same family as turmeric.Hope you identify your plant. When it flowers that should help a lot. I'm interested in seeing some blooming Indian lonicera pictures. That part of the world has some amazing plants. If I lived there I would need a very large yard.

@jaybirdyj: Turmeric germinates only in certain seasons. Here it comes up in monsoon. The bulb remains latent for the rest of the year. Same w ginger I guess. Am not sure. I planted ginger in May, did not germinate. Will have to try now, since rains have started.
