What linens should I get for an eclectic or transitional look on a round dining room table? I've always had rectangular or oval tables and used place mats and runners. But I don't think rectangular place mats look right on a round table, and I don't like the pie wedge ones. I want to protect the surface, which is high gloss lacquered finish, so am thinking about a table pad with a table cloth. But tablecloths seem so old fashioned and give it that romantic vibe that I want to AVOID. Plus they would cover up the beautiful table. So I'm torn. How do I get a clean, modern look for place settings on a round dining table without hiding the beautiful table legs, while protecting the table top?
