Probably will wait for it to dry up, scrape it, shopvac it and clean it up.

We had this problem in the spring,our pocket doors were caked with mud, I was so mad! After complaining multiple times to our builder it was cleaned up. My experience has been it will never be to the hone owners satisfaction and you might as well clean it yourself. I spent several hours thus afternoon cleaning up the job site outside because it wasn't being done by anyone else.

This is a question for your builder. Chances are it will be along the lines of what Casey said.

Unless you are getting some sort of cost concession, you should never have to clean up the job site. Failure to clean the site is a failure on the part of the GC. Insist on a clean, safe job site. It's a direct reflection on the GC.

It's a construction site, not a fancy dress ballroom. Adjust your expectations to the reality of what that means.

Seriously Sophie, it isn't fair to my neighbors that have currently built to have trash blowing in their yard or to see soda cans/water bottles strewn over the yard. There is a dumpster, no excuse to not throw away garbage. I think most of them believe everything will just get buried when the landscaping is done. I have cholden that help me with gardening and in the yard, I don't want them to have hundreds of rusty nails and shards of metal to watch out for.

Sorry I asked. All I really wanted to know was how mud is cleaned up on an active construction site. Thanks to Casey. I was also indirectly hoping to get a read on normal practice when it comes to mud and clean up practice.

To the OP - it would worry me too but they will scrape it up with a flat bladed shovel. And any remnants will get buried under the flooring. I'm sure it will be fine.

But having said that ... very few of these guys are going to treat your home as if it was theirs. Sad but true. The other problem is that most of these guys dont live in custom homes. So the things that you would do to protect your property from damage may be foreign to them.

I think that they DO treat your home as if the it were theirs! I think many live in pigsties.

When I built homes, when we built the deck, we'd put down a layer of 30-pound felt. It's cheap and easy to roll out. Then build up from there. All that mud, drywall dust, and sawdust just got rolled up and tossed out after the drywall stage, and the floor's were basically new.
