After agonizing about my custom fireplace surround and making them doc it to my specs twice I finally got it in today. I'm SO upset to realize I didn't measure the actual mantle depth (was planned at 10"), and come to realize that it's ridiculously large - for our room anyway - at 14"!!! At this point it would be major stress, money, delay to have this fixed. How stupid is this going to seem in the future?

Living room is only 13' wide where the fireplace is.

doesn't help that I'm due to have a baby any moment...
