Need help choosing splashback for new kitchen

Hi All, we've had a new kitchen installed which we are very pleased
with but we are having a lot of trouble choosing a tile colour for the
splashback. We took many samples home and thought we had selected one
that looked nice, keeping it fresh and light but with a slight contrast
from the white cupboards and benchtop. However we just had the tiles
laid in the laundry and I am not convinced as they seem to make the room
look washed out and they look completely different than what we had
imagined from the sample. The grout has not been done yet but I am not
sure this will make much of a difference when it is done. We want to
make sure we have it right before moving onto the kitchen.

We
tried a few darker colour samples such as taupe and beige but we thought
a lighter coloured tile would work best due to the windows in the
kitchen and laundry not having any architraves which means they need to
be tiled into the reveals. Also as the rooms do not have a lot of
natural light we thought it best to keep the room light and fresh.

We
tried a sample bright white tile but this clearly didn't work as it
made the cupboards look dirty as the cupboard white was not as bright as
the tiles.

So we opted for a very light beige/grey which is what is showing on the laundry walls.

We would be very pleased to hear any advice or suggestions.
