Ikea Akurum Kitchen drawer repair

We have a kitchen we installed about 6 years ago. 3 drawer fronts have pulled out of the wood drawer fronts - these were not heavily used drawers - not misused in any way. I have repaired doors before with filling in the hole in the particle board and redrilling new holes - works great, but I have no idea how to tackle repairing the drawer fronts - So, for a year we have had three drawers with no fronts on our pantry unit!

Any ideas of how to repair the wood/particle board front so that I can reattach it to the drawer?

You need to remove the fixing plate from the drawer runner. This what the two screws that you are seeing in you drawer runner. This is what needs to be reattached to your drawer front. You do need to fill the holes in the drawer front and then re-screw the fixing plate to it. You may need new screws. Your local ikea should have these. Hope that makes sense.

Can you not put a proper length screw from the inside front of the drawer into the front panel piece you are reinstalling. Make sure screw is not too long tobreak tthrough the front! Use wood glue and clamps to hold front panel in place while screwing in the screw from the interior of the drawer front.

Same method that you describe for the doors works for the drawers. f the wood is damaged, you can fill with epoxy wood filler (ie Bondo or similar), and redrill after it hardens. It should be as strong as before. I used Bondo on some interior French doors from craigslist to fill in the mortised area for the prior hinges, then re-mortised for a new location of hinges. They are holding up just fine.

Your kitchen has a 25 year warranty, does it not? IKEA should replace them.

I'm curious... Is it the stat? The bead board look? There was a person who posted within the last six months maybe whose Stat fronts/doors were deteriorating too.

First, the 25 year warranty is worthless because they quite literally offered this door style one season. And, they no longer carry this style of kitchen and bad already depleted stock of pieces.

Those screws are blunt and do not go deep into the wood.

I fixed it. I have put in dowels in one drawer front, but I'm not sure that was right.

You could fill the holes with a wood filler (make sure it is one that really hardens) like scrappy25 suggested . It should be ok to re-drill the holes after it hardens.

If by chance, your drawer pulls are in the middle of the drawer, a safer bet would be to rotate the drawers 180 degrees (so the top is now the bottom) and re-drill the holes, so the holes are not in the same spot as they were originally.

Oh, I missed the other part of the problem, which homepro01 is showing. Did you remove the plate from the drawer?

Yes I did realize I need to remove the plate from the drawer, just haven't done it until I'm ready to drill and reassemble.

Hi! Hoping someone can still help even though this post is several years old now. I am experiencing a very similar issue. The drawer front has broken off of the screws.

How do you remove the fixing plate from the drawer runner? I plan to drill new holes and refasten, but cannot figure out how to remove the fixing plates from the drawer runner to refasten.
