Color Changes

Often, rose gardeners are curious about how rose colors change during hot temperatures and increased sun exposure. It has been ridiculously hot in my garden this past week. I snapped these images a half an hour ago to show how color, and even petal count changes can occur as the temperature increases.

Olivia Austin... grafted... yes it is WHITE now... This is the reason why so many people who garden in hot summer climates go for roses that have deeper colors... unless the goal is an all white, blush or beige garden when it becomes hot. Some of the coloring could be due to my horrible soil that will take time to improve... but not all of it...

Grand Dame.. grafted. I think it is holding its color nicely, but the petal count has been impacted

Chicago Peace. The beginning bloom color has not changed much, however, aging blooms fade... a lot

Intrigue is not that deep purple color seen during the Spring and Fall...

La Reine. It is holding its color nicely, especially since it is in full sun, however the petal count is impacted.

Munstead Wood. I believe it has a drastic color change as compared to its deep luscious Spring and Fall coloring.

These blooms on PAoK just look different, even as compared to blooms from days ago. I still like it... Darker pink start, nice faded version during the heat. This rose is grafted, new this year, residing in full sun. I am impressed thus far

Young Lycidas. definitely not the soft, purplish color seen during cooler months. It has one of my favorite old rose fragrances, but I dare not sniff it due to fear of inhaling a bunch of some kind of insect up my nose. I really need to get out and hose of my roses.

William Shakespeare 2000. Unfortunately, this one was planted too late in the season and it did not have any blooms until it was hot, so I do not have a point of reference.

SDLM is doing a decent job of holding its color.

Sorry for images that are not so clear as it was a little breezy out.
