Hi Mariam, The stonework on this house walls is a 4” thick split-face sandstone, quarried at the Marenakos Rock Center in Washington State, and sourced through Pat Pinckney at Specialty Stone in Petaluma, California. To source the stone, we worked with our local stone brokers and suppliers, and spent extensive amounts of time visiting quarries and stoneyards to review available material. We also worked with our general contractor and mason to construct a series of mockup walls, to examine the amount of texture (pitch) on the stone face, as well as the patterning and jointing. The stone was custom-cut and split by the quarry to our specifications. It was installed as a heavy veneer, anchored to concrete structural walls with a conventional wire-tie system. The walls were built by a team of traditional stonemasons. Each block was hand-cut at the jobsite to fit tightly against the neighboring stones, and sawcut from the back to receive and conceal the required metal anchors.
