Flooring ideas needed!!!

We will be laying all new vinyl plank flooring. It has to run east and west for the main living room and hallway. BUT! it has to run north and south through the new kitchen/dining area. It will all be same flooring, there are no walls to define any of these rooms, making it not an easy place to change the flooring 90 degrees.
The first pic shows the hallway and new flooring has to run same direction. But the second pic shows linoleum and wall that won't be there soon. Where the hardwood ends will be the new kitchen and beyond that a new dining room. The flooring has to change to be north south in that long room. How can I apply the new direction? I don't really want big transition pieces like I have on the hardwood (for going to the lino)

I'm not totally understanding your question. Why couldn't the new flooring run in the same direction as the current flooring?

Are you going over the hardwood with the vinyl? Did you know that may not be ALLOWED? Many vinyl planks state they cannot go down over top of a "finished" hardwood.

Please be VERY aware of what you are about to do. Vinyl is NOT laminate. It has MANY different requirements...most of those requirements require professional-level fixes (like removing/repairing subfloors, etc).

Once you figure out how to install the vinyl...I suggest you run the vinyl all in the same direction...it is just that much easier and that much nicer to look at/live with. And it reduces your need for transitions.

Good luck and DOUBLE CHECK with the vinyl manufacturer if it can be laid over finished hardwood (most cannot).

I am not sure why you would replace hardwood with vinyl. Why not just add hardwood where the vinyl is currently and refinish the floors?

I initially assumed you were just replacing the kitchen with vinyl so I didn't see the issue with the direction, but your post seems to suggest you were thinking of doing something more than that.

I would suggest putting the new flooring the same direction as the existing one. There is no need to define different areas in the house by floor. Your areas of the house are defined by furniture and its purpose.
