I doubt it, but first, not all ponds require a pump although it is certainly nice for the sound in addition to other values. Depending on your driveway, it may not be that difficult to run power under it and out to your pond. What kind of distance is involved?

Thanks for the response! About 50 feet? the house is to the right of the driveway and we are hoping to put the pond to the left. We do have fish we will be putting in (not koi), and in winter will need to have a fountain running to keep it from icing over. So we were hoping for some electricity! We installed a pool and ran electric out to it and built a pole for the outlets, and were going to do the same here but the driveway is creating a barrier!

I suppose it depends on your location (zone 5 is certainly colder than my zone 7), but even when we could stand on our frozen pond (when pump circulation stopped one year) our goldfish were OK. One of my ponds is 50' out there and I actually had some help digging for power and a french drain, but it wasn't really all that bad to redig part of the distance. If your driveway is just gravel, I doubt it would be that hard to do but if cement, I suppose you would have to really know what you were doing. Of course, you could always do what I have done for a garden electric fence. I just strung an extension cord from our high porch to a tree so we could walk under it while mowing the weeds etc. Or, you could even do as we do at Christmas, where we lay an extension cord across our driveway so we can light stuff up 20 to 150 feet out.

Thanks for the info! Driveway is black asphalt, and pretty wide. We have another area possible, but no room for seating so not as much fun! Waiting now for the utilities to check for underground lines which might throw a wrench in everything!

I'm sure it's not to code, but I would suggest that you try an upgraded version of my Christmas approach and lay an extension cord across your driveway encased in some rubberized riser like something that is occasionally run across a room to prevent tripping. If nothing else, that would allow you to test a pond out and see if you needed something better. If you went some professional route, you probably should think about trenching in some water line for regular gardening and other power for lighting etc.
