Ideas for house exterior

We are planning to add a half story addition to our 1970s 4 level split. Doing the addition will use up all of the funds we have. We would love to update the exterior of the home at the same time so everything goes together, but unfortunately there's just not enough moola for that. So we will have to put siding on the addition for now and then update the rest of the house at a later date. We like the modern exterior style with a mixture of finishes. We have some features of the addition that lend itself to modern style as well such as the slanted roof. However, the windows are all white vinyl and most of the exterior colour palettes that I've seen have black framed windows. I need help with colour palette and material choice! What should our eventual plan be for the exterior of the house? What should we side the addition with so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the meantime but will also go with our eventual choices for the rest of the home?? Any other changes we should make to the exterior currently that are minimal budget wise, but could help things meld together (ex. painting the brown trim, removing shutters...) ? What about shingle colour?
