I had nickel for 15 years in my last home and think it is classically beautiful. It has a softer, warmer look than chrome which always looks harsh to me. I used brushed nickel in the kitchen to go with the stainless appliances and polished in the baths to go with marble. Chrome has a place in a super modern home I suppose.

Are you planning on selling anytime soon? If not, go with what you like. You're the one who has to live with it. Besides, nickel anything is not so atypical that anyone would put off buying on that faucet alone. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. As for the rest of your bathroom, I have no idea if that is classic or trendy.

Thank you both!! We hope to be staying for a while but with my husband's job, there is always a chance of moving so I just want to be sure polished nickel isn't a risky choice. The bathroom is going to be very traditional, 1" hexagon tile on the floor and subway tile on the wall (marble). Thanks again for your advice!

Honestly, anyone looking at your home is going to decide whether to buy based on their gut reaction to the space, and I don't think the immediate visual difference between polished nickel and chrome is big enough to make a difference, even in a high-end home. I would go with what looks right to you. For reference, my master bath has polished nickel and I didn't even notice for over a year!
