Dress Up

We just finished an added addition to the right of the, new vinyl, new windows, and enclosed the front porch (bump out on left). Now we're trying to figure out to dress them up. Maybe an attached pergola over the door and windows to it's left and porch? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

A porch and pergola across the front of the bump out would be a nice addition. A planter box along the front of the long part of the house planted with flowers and succulents would clean that up as well. It would give the house more presence.

    The door is new. Yes?

It is new. I am regretting it, but don't think my husband would be happy to take it out again and replace it.

The door is also just primed and we didn't have room to add thr thicker trim which underwhelms it.

You need a porch and steps to the front door. It would look best if the porch is as wide as the front door bumpout. The porch and steps will require railings for safety and a good look. Next, a walkway from the driveway to the front steps.
The final job is landscaping across the front of the house. A tree or two in the yard, some evergreen shrubs, and some flowers would add a friendly touch. Plant things which do not require much maintenance, and choose things which are native or well-adapted to your zone. Place the trees to provide needed shade or to allow sunlight into the house. Plan your tree and shrub locations with allowances for growth in height and girth....they will grow to fill the space.

I agree that we need a porch. My concern is that it's going to increase the depth of the bump out comma and make the right hand side of the house look even more detached. I can't quite grasp how to tie those two sides in and make them flow.

You could attach a shallow step up porch to the bump out . Say six to eight feet. That could run in front of the rest of the house like a deck evening it out. It would make for a good size area to have a table and some armchairs. Then you just need something small for the weather over the door and a pergola or awning over the rest. If you did that you wouldn't have to worry about covering the foundation. There is nothing wrong with the door. In fact I like it. I would paint it a bright color to help it stand out however. Maybe a royal blue or a bright green. Put a porch light to the right side facing it.

What do you all think about adding white corbels?

Since the bump out comes so far forward already, consider having the patio to the right side of the house somewhat deeper than a small patio section in front of the bump out- same materials, of course. This should create a visual balance. I like
the idea of a brightly colored door someone suggested. Vary the height of any plantings - some taller elements will break up the wide look.

Corbels would depend on the type of roof you use. They could look good on your house with the right application.
