Kitchen costs

So we are starting to price out our kitchen. We thought that 30K (not including appliances) would be enough for the remodel including quality cabinets. I am starting to question that... Our kitchen is not big. We are looking at soapstone counters for around 5K. We have to rip up some cheap flooring and are hoping there is pine under it to refinish. What cabinet brands should we be looking at to stay in budget? We don't live in a high COL area. Thanks for any help you can offer!

for one kitchen reno on a budget, I just hired a carpenter to alter what I had, adding some drawers and such. for two others, after pricing Craftmade and such, I went to a local cabinet maker. Beautiful cabinets for much less then craftmaid. My last kitchen was small and we did all labor except cabinet install and spent a total of 13k. I did have to give up the stone counters to stay in that price though. :/

What you get for your budget may depend more on where you live. We are building in Atlantic Canada and for our new build we have 30k as our budget for custom cabinets and counters throughout the home (3.5 bath, laundry, wet bar and kitchen in a 4200 sq ft home and we are just over our budget as we look at higher quality materials. Renos have additional costs to new builds but I think you may be surprised at what you can get with 30k. Get a kitchen designer on board and see what they can do for you with quotes and schematics.

National average is 60K for a full remodel with 40% of that going to cabinets and their install. Of the rest, a rough breakdown is 10% to appliances, 10% to countertops, 10% to flooring, 5% for electrical and lighting. 5% for plumbing, 10% for demo, 5% for paint or wallcovering. 5%for backsplash. And 10% for contingency overages.
