It's oak but it does have a kind of stain that is darkening it deeper than natural. There are so many stains on the market, and it is so incredibly easy to mix and customize stain colors, that I would be surprised if anyone can tell you exactly what stain it is.

Why do you ask?

Unfortunately, some nuances are lost at certain levels. In the posted photo there appears to be a slight difference in color between the panel and trim which may be the wood or the stain.

@Elle -- the center panel is a veneer and takes stain differently that the solid wood.

Very difficult to tell from a picture. I would recommend taking one of the doors to your local Home Depot or Lowes and compare it to the stain samples on display. Good luck.

What exactly will having a name gain you? With the variations in the grain, you can't use a name to match anything to it.

My MIL really wants to make her kitchen more modern, but isn't up for redoing the cabinets since the wood is throughout her house (the kitchen comments to the family room where there are beams, bookshelves, etc with this medium wood color).

I was curious on your take about the color because I am searching different room design ideas and wanted to put in the type of cabinets she has to see the effects of different paint.

The kitchen connects to the family room**

Pick up a few 2' x 2' squares of sheetrock and the small bagged paint samples. Paint the sheetrock one color front, another on back. You will have a fairly large example of the color to place on the wall and view in the same light.

Paints look different in sunlight, fluorescent, etc.

I am a Realtor, not a designer. But when I have clients choosing materials for a new home build I always ask the designer to take their samples over near a window. The change in perceived color can be surprising.

Using a large paint sample on wall material gives you a good idea how the room will look. You can also leave the sample up for a few days to make sure.
