You want something that will brighten up the kitchen.

WOW you need a lot more lighting in this space your perimeter granite is going to eat light, too bad these decisions are already made these would not have been the granites i would have chosen in this space

I think it is the red wall color above the cabinets that is making the kitchen particularly dark and that is a quick and easy fix with a new coat of paint in a light neutral.

The 9' island can easily use pendants every 3' or one fixture with two or three lamps.

The lighting u determine should depend on your style and the overall look you are trying to achieve.. Make if work with your existing decor unless you are planning to repaint or change colors in counters or cabinetry. The finish you choose can either match your existing hardware or stand alone if your lights are going to b the showpieces in the space, I feel lights are like jewelry they can really make a space extra pretty and add that finishing touch...

Simply brightening paint color and adding a nice Statement Light similar to this, especially if u only have the one light outlet and don't want to add multiple pendants - This will make biggest impact!

So many beautiful choices for your lovely kitchen. I'd think over-sized multiples. That's a long island. It could handle five 5" wide x 12" tall pendants are three bigs ones. Do you want bling, classic, industrial, funkie? The metal doesn't need to match your other finishes. Here are some ideas.

I'm sure your kitchen isn't as dark as the picture represents with that streak of sunlight likely mucking up the contrast in the camera.

That said, with still likely a darker tone over all, you have an opportunity to make the light fixture quite the center piece, if you want to play against all that. So i wouldn't restrict myself to matching other materials, unless you want it to disappear more and not be prominent.

Either way I agree that you probably do want something that will pump some lumens into the area.

Just some out of the box thinking here, mostly for inspiration, not necessarily exact suggestions.

We have this one in our dining room and love it. Crazy bright. I had to put it on a dimmer.

Some warmth i was trying to play along with the red in your kitchen. Didn't really like anything i found, but just a concept, really.

Those first two above would throw some crazy interesting shadows and textured light around the room, which would be great, I think.
