Need some advice for my kitchen

We are doing a kitchen reno. We are thinking of going with white shaker cabinets with brushed nickel sleek handles, and a grey quartz countertop.

I was going to paint the walls a light grey. My son suggested we go with a flat panel instead of shaker cabinets. Now we are wondering if we should go with dark cabinets, like Wenge, or Expresso shaker. Also because wood is at least $1,500 more, we are probably going with thermafoil. Right now there is brown/black laminate flooring throughout, but I don't like laminate in a kitchen and it wasn't installed properly anyway. So what to put on the floor now? The house was built in the 1970's. The dining and living rooms have cathedral cedar ceilings.

Pin the picture with the full yellow wall with wallpaper will be a pantry then counter then stove then counter then fridge. The one wall after that will be closed off as that is where the laundry was but will now be behind that wall in the bathroom.

Where the window is will be the sink and stove will be on shorter wall. Cabinets will go to where the ladder is in picture.

So, flat or shaker cabinets? White or dark cabinets? And what for my floor. Thanks in advance

I've superimposed the cabinet finishes on your floor.

I would stick with the Shaker style door in white. I think the area could benefit from the light reflection. The wenge or espresso is going to soak up light like crazy.

Espresso cabinets are going the way of the dodo IMO white shaker is a classic style as for the floor what is in the rest of the house , that would be what I would put in the kitchen in fact from what I can see the laminate looks to be in good shape but i am not sure what you mean by it was not installed properly

I really like an idea of white cabinets and as Beverly showed to have a darkers Island. Flooring looks just fine, if you need to replace it, I would go with something similar, since you have the same flooring throught the house. If it's hard to match, put large greish tiles for better maintenance.

forget the thermofoil -- they r not good for the long haul. If damaged, can't be repaired. Agree that Beverly's design is really nice!

I agree with the others that the white shaker cabinets and a light gray tile floor will go very nicely with your counter top selection.

Beverly Fladeziner, with regards to the laminate not being installed properly I meant that the seams don't all meet and also some of them are damaged. We have had laminate in a kitchen in a previous house that we bought and it had water damage. That's the chance you take with laminate. Thank you for your pre imposed images. I love the white kitchen you did for me.

lacey, I didn't mention anything about laminate (?) However, if price is a concern I would recommend IKEA Shaker style kitchen cabinets rather than the thermofoil. I have had the IKEA cabinets for years and find them to be very good quality for a more than reasonable price.

I agree about the ikea cabinets and it was me that asked about the floor so if you are taking it out in the kitchen and it is fine everywhere else then a large format tile would work but you need to make sure your floor can handle it without any movement at all

Sorry about that ladies, got the two of you mixed up. Yes, we would go with a larger tile and there is no problem with anything shifting. Already got a company to do our cabinets, just having second thoughts about the thermafoil to wood shaker. And we are too far from any IKEA. Thanks.

White Shaker-style cabinets are classic and go with every style. Flat fronts are style-less, appear inexpensive and are rather out-of-date, in my opinion.

Update on my kitchen. It's finally almost finished. New dilemma though. Not sure what lighting I should do over the kitchen sink and island. The rest of the kitchen has pitted lights, but it isn't possible to put a potted light over the sink. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance.
