How well does a wood countertop hold up in a kitchen? Thinking of putting one on our island but am worried about scratches, marks etc....thanks!

Hi cwoodproject, durability is going to depend on what functions you would like a butcher block for and the finish. If you're planning on using it as a cutting board and for food prep I would suggest a tung oil and beeswax finish. This is completely food safe and when the block starts to look a little worn you just apply some beeswax and it looks good as new. But this finish would not be waterproof so if there is a sink in the island you'll have to be careful. Also maintenance for a butcher block with tung oil and beeswax is very simple, just clean the top, apply some beeswax with a paper towel and you're good to go!

If you have any other questions about finish options, kinds of wood, thicknesses, ect just give us a call or email. You could also visit our website for a lot more information also.

    Hope I could help!
