Wood bathtub Apron?

We are going with cultured marble to save money in our showers but I really don't like the look of the cultured marble on the skirt. I like the look of a trimmed bathtub similar to this picture but am worried about using wood next to the bathtub. Does anyone have experience with this type of skirt and how does it wear?

There are two big factors in the wear and longevity of a wood cap at a tub -- how often the tub is used and what finish you put on it to seal it.

Honestly, in a master or guest bath, if the tub in a drop in like here (vs an undermount), make sure you have a good, solid clear caulk bead all around the tub. If however, this tub is used by kids or on a daily basis, you will need to be vigilant about keeping it dry after use.

Re the sealant, consult with a wood specialist for the most durable water based finish you can find.

Stacy, our tub front matches our vanity. I use the tub daily and have had no problems. I am careful to watch for drips though. The panels remove so there is access to the motor.

Thank you for the input! Our builder recommends against using wood but are there any alternatives besides tile or stone/engineered stone?

Yeah my master bath tub is framed with wood to match our vanity, and it's been no problem. We don't use it every day, but we do use it from time to time. It doesn't really get splashed because it faces away from the tub anyway, and it's vertical so there's no pooling.

We have trimmed wood on the sides of 2 tubs, and never had an issue. How much splashing has to happen to get water on the vertical panels? It doesn't happen.
