Even grafted trees can take around 10 years to produce, from seeds your best bet is to graft onto them.

Growing lychee from seed, it can take between 9 to 14 years until the tree is mature enough to begin producing fruit. In China, breeding new varieties of lychee was traditionally a long-term family undertaking, as it could take 2 or 3 generations.

Growing the plant from seed is very easy though. The seed should be laid on its side, because the roots come out of the same end of the seed as the sprout does.

For any of you who do not know, the flavor of fresh lychee is excellent, definitely one of the better tasting tropical fruits. The flavor is very perfumed, like roses.

Thank you all. Well im just starting this to have big trees in a future. I'm just 18 so i hope in a future I can see these trees grow big and with fruit. Just make sure your lychee plant gets consistent water. Lychee can require a lot of water to be able to thrive in drier climates.

The Chinese consider lychees to be divided into two types, "mountain-type" and "water-type". The water-type grows in well irrigated lowland areas. The lychee variety most commonly grown in Mexico is 'Mauritius', which is a mountain-type, and can tolerate drier areas a little bit better. Most commercial lychee production in Florida is 'Brewster', which is a water-type and grows well in Florida's humid climate.

Oh thanks Parker for the info. I kind of assumed that it was Mauritius but was never sure. I didn't know they classified them as two different types of trees.
