With a 6' round table, you need a rug that is 11 x 11' or larger, because you need 30" beyond the table on all sides. It's fine to use a rectangular rug as long as it's larger than 11 x 11'.

How big is your room? I assume you've tried putting those felt bottoms on the feet of your chairs but they haven't worked.

laslin...if the felt pads are not sticking to the bottom of your chair legs/table legs...glue them into place. I had to do that with mine and they have not moved. The pads have been in place since last Aug.

We have a round table in our dining room with no rug and no problems, but our wood floor is wire brushed so doesn't show scratches. Try those pads!

laslin...Your very welcome. Your room is almost the same size as mine...mine is 10 1/2 x 13 1/2. I have a round table as well with six chairs. Try the pad...get some the same color as the wood tone of your chairs so they will not be noticed. I have dark wood and originally got the light buff colored pads...yikes. So, when they started coming off all the time, I found the dark brown pads and glued them on with Super Glue. OH...I took the little rubber things off the bottom of the chair legs before gluing on the pads. The pads are glued directly to the bottom of the chair legs.

You definitely need to make sure the rug is large enough to cover your floors when the chairs are pulled out. If you can't find "ready made" rugs to fit the size you need, you can always make a rug out of wall to wall carpet. Stanton Carpet makes a lot of patterns if that's what you'd like, or Dixie Home has a lot of tufted patterns in solid colors.
If you have to cover most of your wood, just leave about 6-12 inches around the room so you can still see your wood.

I would love to see some photos of your room and actual measurements of the area. There are so many options with a round table. Depending on your style (formal/informal), you can think in terms of having the "rug" painted on the floor and have it urethaned and place protective pads on your chairs. If you absolutely need texture AND color, then that is an entirely different issue. I would not do a round rug. As Carolyn stated, 11 X11 is a good size and done in a square.

You have a very lovely home. I can see why a rug is not operable. Unless you pull the table and chairs away from the windows and even then you might not have sufficient space. (is your table really 72" in diameter?) Add the floor protectors to your chairs and table legs and enjoy your beautiful home!

I would not like your beautiful space with a rug. It would be too crowded and looks great the way it is!

@Madelaine, thank you and guess what, my table is 5 feet. I guess I was thinking 60 inches was 6 feet!!!! Lol, actually I was not thinking! Either way, I think non-rug for my space.

I don't like a rug under a dining room table because it is hard to keep it clean from the food spills. Your room looks nice the way it is.
