If heard of people, having their washer in a shared laundry room, using bike locks around the door hinge so the door cannot be closed and their washer not used without permission. This would most likely only work on front loaders, though.

I'm not sure they make these anymore. About 3-5 years ago wi-fi capable washers were the next big thing but people did not like the idea that the washer could be turned off via an app. But that is what you would be looking for a machine with wi-fi.

no , not locking the cable up , I saw a review of a new machine on cnet just a couple months ago , it had the ability to not let people use the machine unless the owner turned it on with a password or smart phone I believe

that would be the not yet in production Marathon. It's a new start up using what looks like a GE as a base model for a vented washer-dryer combo.

Other than that, I know of no such washer. Miele has Pro models ($$$) with PIN code - but I am not sure if the code is changeable from its default (which is 0000 or 1234 or something). No remote start with Miele. Most remote start washers today need to have the remote start option enabled at the washer each time one wants to use it, so that wouldn't work for you either.

It's probably the best/easiest to find a way to disabled the washer (lock around the door or maybe the plug) to stop everybody from using your washer.

Are your roommates not able to accept a "no" for an answer? Sorry, but I would not be able to live with people like that. I would look for new roommates.

Just throwing this out there to see if it sticks- You could remove the water valve knobs when you're not using it. It would be just a deterrent, of course, but it might be a measure that will let your roommates know you're serious.

Plus, it's low-tech and free ;-)

Does your laundry room have a door? You could put something like a Key less dead bolt on it with a smart phone lock and unlock feature. I have one for my front door. I can use a key or I can type in a code or use my phone to lock and unlock it from anywhere. You can also assign temporary codes for service people. I got mine at home depot it is made by Schlage.

You should be able to devise some contraption that slips over the plug (unplugged of course) with holes to slip a pad lock thru.

For instance a thermostat locking cover might work.

120V electric plugs typically have holes in the prongs. Find a small key or combination lock that fits through. You'll make your point that the machine is hands-off, although the lock could be picked or attacked with bolt cutters..

Does not sound like a very happy environment, room mate wise. IMO, the best solution would be to buy an inexpensive second hand top loader that you don't mind sharing. Otherwise, that new Hands Off machine is going to get damaged, mysteriously.

I have the same problem with grown kids that don’t take care of washer and dryer. And they do their friends damn laundry. I didn’t struggle to get them so everyone else and their brother can have it. I’m livid.
